Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
